If you would like to contribute information
either for a new page on the Ramsbury & Axford site, or to update
an existing page with latest information, please take a little time
to read the following hints on the content, presentation and file
formats which are acceptable.
For a new page or when planning major changes to content, spend
time sketching out on paper the general layout of your page, including
photographs & diagrams as well as text. Whilst the "index" or "top"
page for a club or organisation has a well-defined overall appearance,
sub-pages can be in any format and can include or omit the standard
header, footer and navigation menus (across the top and down the
side). Have a look at pages produced by other organisations, and
other web-sites, to get ideas.
When you have firmed up the design and content, assemble the
components (photographs, diagrams and text) separately. Do not
attempt to construct a composite electronic document or web page
yourself.
If
you find it convenient, the components can be as printed or hand-written
documents, colour photoprints or slides, with a sketch included,
all in an envelope and dropped into the Webmaster at 55 High Street.
However, many people find it more convenient to send the components
electronically as attachments to the webmaster.
In this case, you should employ the following formats for the attached
files:
- all attachments should be in ZIPped files (see panel);
- photographs or scanned images should be copies of original
files where possible. RAW image files produced by the more expensive
digital cameras are not acceptable - do not save photographs
"for the web" or "as a web image";
- text content should be prepared as an A4 document in Serif
PagePlus, Microsoft Word or Publisher) or as a PDF document.
If a PDF is supplied, please indicate if you would prefer the
PDF to be presented "as is" on the web-site;
- if your organisation has a logo, please send it as a paper
or electronic copy.

If you do not understand how
to ZIP a file and you have an older system, you will need to download
a ZIP program such as Winzip - just click on the link and follow
instructions on the Winzip
site. The program may be used without payment for a month or
so and comes with a comprehensive Help system.
Windows XP and Vista systems have built-in support for ZIPping
and unZIPping files. For Help in using the facilities, click on START|Search
or
START|Find and then enter "ZIP" in the search textbox.
